Frequently Asked Questions
What is Vaping?
Vaping is an alternative to smoking and was invented in 2003 as a way to give smokers a less harmful alternative to cigarettes, while still providing a similar feeling to inhaling smoke. Traditional nicotine replacement options such as nicotine patches and gum have had limited success in helping people quit, because while they do help satisfy the craving for nicotine, they miss an important aspect of smoking; the act of inhaling and exhaling the smoke. For many smokers this habit is as difficult to give up as the nicotine addiction itself.
How Does it Work?
A vape is a device with two main parts; a battery (or Mod) which is rechargeable like a mobile phone, and a tank. The tank is filled with flavoured liquid which is heated by pressing a button to produce the vapour cloud.
The tank has a mouthpiece at the top (which is called a drip tip) which is often the same shape and size as a cigarette filter which is used to inhale the vapour.
Do I have to use Nicoine?
For many, using nicotine makes the transition from smoking a lot easier. However, it’s not the only way people choose to vape. Many are happy to simply replace the action of smoking with vaping, while they give up. The reason many people say they find vaping an easier way to quit smoking is that it address both the craving (for those using nicotine) and behavioural aspects of smoking addiction. For many, there are a number of factors involved, including the need to relieve stress or activities that trigger smokers to reach for a cigarette. Vaping, with or without nicotine, can be a great alternative.
